With a total revamp in 1999, the Fête des Guides
de Chamonix now offers a completely new image, combining
the ambitions of the younger generation of guides with
the respect of age-old mountain guide tradition. Since
1999, an annual nocturnal event has been held in the magical
site of the rock face at Les Gaillands on the evening
of 14th August. This exceptional soirée hosts three
grand events: a light and sound extravaganza, conceived
and produced on the rock face by the guides themselves;
a fabulous firework display; and a concert which goes
on to the early hours. More than 10,000 people were present
during the concerts of bands such as The Silencers, Les
Négreses Vertes, Bernard Lavilliers or even Sinsemilia,
in recent years.
