12th :
Bread fair at the Lavancher
|
everyone
knows how mouthwatering home-baked country bread can be
!
Come
and join us for our traditional baking of country bread
! Located in the quiet mountain village of Lavancher,
standing among typical farm houses, this ancient stone
oven was built in 1821. In 1981 it was restored to greet
this convivial celebration.
Bread is baked at 16H00 and 17H00 that day. Visitors can
enjoy and share an aperitif at 18H30. Reservation and
information for the country-style meal taking place in
Lavancher around 19H00 are available at the various offices
of the Guides Company in the Chamonix valley.
2 large shelter tents are located on site, and can fit
up to 120 people in case of wet and rainy weather conditions.

13th :
Les Houches
|
Presentation
of a mountain film at Salle Olca events hall in Les Houches,
followed by an open debate encouraging dialogues and exchanges
between visitors and the mountain guides of the Chamonix
Guides Company also located in Les Houches ! |

14th :
Argentière
Shows
and concerts
|
An
official and traditional ceremony gathers all the members
of the Chamonix Guides Company in Argentière.
During a procession to the vallage cemetery, a religious
tribute is paid to guides and alpinists who died mountaineering.
The official call for registration takes place in front
of church. Membership and loyalty medals are handed
to new members and life-long clients in Argentière
as a sign of appreciation and recognition.
It’s party time !
The magical site of Les Gaillants climbing
crag provides a great stage for this new age show on
the evening of the 14th. Thanks to the energy and inspiration
of young ambitious guides, a new style of festival has
come forward since 1999. On August 14th, festivities
at the Gaillants crag start around 20H00, including
a live musical son et lumière presentation, entirely
written and performed by mountain guides; just after
fireworks above the Gaillants lake, a live music concert
brings an end to an evening of fun and celebration.
During the past recent years, more than 10 000 people
came to enjoy the sound of famous music bands such as
The Silencers, the Negresses Vertes, Bernard Lavilliers
or Sencemilia.

15th :
Fête des Guides in Chamonix
|
The official ceremony in Chamonix !
Wearing their traditional mountain
guides outfit, members of the Chamonix Guides Company
proceed to town cemetery to honor guides and mountaineers
who died in the alpine.
The
traditional call for registration takes place in front
of church, followed by a tribute to the year’s
honored guide.
Finally, it is time to listen to the Company’s
President. His speech focuses on the festival’s
theme of the year, as well as tradition, history and
new mountaineering events.
The new members of the Company are granted an official
membership medal by a Company’s member of their
choice. Medals of loyalty and recognition are given
to guide-client parties.
Blessing of ice-axes and climbing ropes is performed
by the priest just before mass.

At last, visitors and spectators are invited to share
a toast to friendship around 12H00.
